Our Journey

We are on a journey to discover unique handcrafted treasures from around the world…

WYLE BLUE WORLD...

was founded in 2016 when Belinda travelled with her son to the alluring city of Marrakech. Immediately falling in love with its creative culture, stunning textiles and in particular, the enchanting Jardin Marjorelle – engulfed in an array of vibrant colours and magnificent architecture, Jardin Marjorelle became a major influence in Wyle Blue World’s beginnings. The dazzling exotic “ultramarine blue” that adorns the walls of Yves Saint Laurent Jardin Majorelle  is now the back drop to our own Secret Garden, adorned with mosaic tables, iron chairs, pots and planters, all of which are for sale.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUED TO SOUTH AFRICA...

inspired by the creative and resourceful work of local artisans, creating beautiful handcrafted works of art, from beaded necklaces to up-cycled beer cans into a life size Kiddo head – much to the amusement of fellow travellers when it came home in Belinda’s hand luggage!

WITH THIS INSPIRATION IN MIND, THE CONCEPT OF WYLE BLUE WAS FORMED...

after months of major renovations, the historic grade II listed building was transformed from ‘The Same Day Dry Cleaners’ (which originally opened in 1958) to the unique Home & Lifestyle store and secret garden.

OUR JOURNEY HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN...

discovering the talent of many artisans from around the world. As Hannah embarks on her travels across the magical country of India and Belinda exploring the nature and beauty of Vietnam. They both aim to bring a little piece of the country, through the craftsmen they meet along the way. Cramming all this goodness and creativity into our little shop on the Wyle Cop… WYLE BLUE WORLD.

IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR, HANNAH EMBARKED ON HER TRAVELS ACROSS INDIA...

a place of mystery, spirituality, colour and love. Everything she fantasised it would be came true! Seeing elephants & tigers in the jungle, learning the art of block printing in Rajasthan, watching prayer ceremonies on the banks of the Ganges, to the chaotic streets blocked by slow moving cows…and so much more

In November of this year the Wyle Blue team headed to Istanbul...

in search of exciting new goods for the Wyle Blue shelves… just in time for Christmas. We knew it would be good, but we weren’t expecting to be blown away by the beautiful array of textiles, leather goods and jewellery. We delved deep into the bazaars, markets & emporiums, but barely scratched the surface of what this glowing metropolis has to offer. It is one of the most intoxicating cities we’ve been to thus far and we can safely say we will be returning next year.

In January of this year we ventured to the city of Paris...

during design week and went off the beaten track to experience some of Paris best street markets where we discovered so many wonderful niche jewellery designers. The French capital was full of surprises.

Spring 2020 Shrewsbury...

Sadly our travelling was put on hold due to the global impact of COVID. However we are so grateful to our friends and the artisans that we have met on our journey who have still made it possible for us to source and support handmade treasures from around the world.

July 2020...

In July 2020 we opened the blue BAR a further extension of WYLE BLUE WORLD. The terrace garden instantly became one of Wyle Cops go to destinations during the Summer months. Our terrace bar has a Moroccan vibe with stunning views over Shrewsbury, serving our very own blue BAR gin, sharing platters and wood fired pizzas.

The blue BAR re-opens Spring 2021 – Bringing you an exciting new menu, extended seating and themed dinning experiences, from Fire Pit Feasts, Spanish Tapas and Moroccan Mezze. Exciting details to follow….

June 2021 – A flavour of Morocco brought to Wyle Cop

As the country began to emerge from lockdown, Belinda was working hard to prepare for the opening of the vibrant secret garden that awaits behind Wyle Blue World. Belinda put boundless energy into the renovations and, by June, blueBAR was ready for its first summer season. Whilst international travel was still limited, blueBAR hoped to bring a flavour of Morocco to Shrewsbury. An authentic Moroccan menu was created that offered a taste of Belinda’s travels to Marrakech and beyond. Like stepping into a distant world, the alfresco dining area was adorned with traditional Moroccan ceramics and handmade brass lamps – all of which are sold in the shop. The secret garden didn’t stay a secret for long as people began flocking for the lively atmosphere and authentic food. By the first week, the bar was the talk of Shrewsbury. An exciting new chapter for Wyle Blue World had begun.

August 2021 – A return to the city that inspired it all

Wyle Blue World continued its success as the summer sun shone on. It wasn’t long before Belinda and Hannah were itching to return to the alluring city of Marrakech, the place at the source of bountiful inspiration for Belinda as she dreamt up the concept for Wyle Blue World. As travel restrictions began to lift, they set about organising their next trip. In mid-August, they jetted off in search of fresh inspiration and new treasures. They returned to the foundries, where the beautiful glassware is made and selected vintage Berber cushions in the Atlas Mountains. They met with each of the talented artisans who skilfully hand make the pieces that stock the shelves of the shop. They returned home to Wyle Blue World with exciting new stock as well as more ideas for next year.

September 2021 – Exciting things to come

After a lively summer of delicious Moroccan food in the sunshine of the not-so-secret garden, the blueBAR closed for the winter. Belinda raised a toast at an intimate party with those who helped to make the success of the summer possible. Although the blueBAR has closed for the winter, the team are already working hard on ideas and events for summer 2022 when it will reopen. As for the shop, the staff are busy working towards the busy Christmas season, with a new arrival of stock pending. The successes of the summer are just the beginning.

After the buzz and chaos of Christmas, Belinda and Hannah headed into 2022 full of excitement as they ventured back to one of their favourite cities, Istanbul, for their first buying trip of the year.

Whilst there they faced snowstorms, slippery slopes (in rather inappropriate shoes!!) and the threat of cancelled flights. Taking this in their stride, discovering beautiful jewellery collections and vibrant Ikat fabrics. “Istanbul’s rich history has created one of the most multicultural and diverse cities in the world and that’s one of the reasons we love it. We are always blown away by the hospitality and kindness of the crafts people we collaborate with and are now lucky enough to call our friends”

MOROCCO MARCH 2022

Back in the red city for their Spring buying trip, Belinda & Hannah spent hours in the souks discovering artisan treasures made with heart and soul – not factory machine made!

They also ventured to the ceramic workshops of Safi, a city in western Morocco on the Atlantic Coast. Where they were privileged to watch the traditional skills that go into each and every piece in WYLE BLUES ceramic collection.

“It’s been so lovely to have enjoyed the rich colours, patterns and textures of Morocco again! Better times are coming and we’re busy planning our next adventure.”
